The Best Laptop Backup Software Programs

January 31st, 2009

As more employees work remotely and travel to multiple location there is an increasing amount of data that needs to be backed up. Finding an efficient backup solution for the remote and off site workforce is very important.Using an outdated backup solution that was not designed to support multiple locations and remote workers will cause problems.

Traditional laptop backup software programs continue to need large resources and dedicated and trusted networks for backups. The reason many of the current PC backup solutions are so clumsy is because they have evolved out of older server archival backup products.

Remote workers are looking for a backup solution that is resource friendly and that are easy to set up.

So what are the six most important features to insist upon when looking for a backup solution. Backing up your computer is one of those things that your employees know they should do but if the software is not automated and simple to use they will avoid this task. The backup solution that you need to look for must be automated and simple. The instructions need to clear and no more than 5 or 6 steps. Instead of using a calendar system it should have simple instructions like run this every 5 hours will help the employee become compliant with backup policies.

The software must be able to function with very little system resources. A backup software solution that uses too many system resources slows down the users computer making the use hate to backup their computers.

Even though laptops are fast replacing desktops in many companies, most backup software still hasn’t evolved. Resource conservation is important for remote backup software so that the user can continue working while the software is running.

Being able to set simple options like preventing the backup when the laptop is on battery power or setting the maximum percentage that it can use of the CPU or bandwidth available can make the difference between employees using the backup software and avoiding it when possible.

Being WAN and bandwidth optimized helps the software backup remote laptops more easily. More and more companies are outfitting their workforce with laptops and having them work off site. Being WAN or internet ready the backup solution helps protect the data from all these mobile workers. The user should be able to choose a bandwidth like 10% of the available bandwidth and the backup software should just work, even over the weakest internet connections. If the backup software does not use all or most of the system resources the worker is able to continue working.Security is very important to companies, specially when you are using WAN/VPN. Client triggered backup solutions can be allowed by the firewalls which monitor the inbound traffic. The software you choose should be able to set up secure backups using encryption and authenticated sessions.

Large files like Outbook PST have made it imperative that the backup software allow for incremental backups. If only the changed bits are copied to the server then the backup can be completed more quickly therefore incremental backups is an important feature to look for.

What your employees need in a backup solution should determine which product you choose. Requiring an email to be sent to admin to get your data back is a real pain for users especially if the user is off-site or traveling. A backup solution should allow the user to obtain a restored file easily.

When you chose a backup solutions keep in mind the above mentioned features so that your users will backup often and backup well.

Why Do Social Bookmarking if you want added traffic?

January 31st, 2009

When you find a website that you like and you want to go back to that site regularly, you don’t have to memorize its URL, you only need to bookmark it. Since people who find something valuable or useful often find themselves itching to share their discoveries, they refer the URLs to their friends and family. This spun off to become social bookmarking, and web searching has never been the same again. When it comes to internet marketing, many people are using social bookmarking to drive traffic to their websites.

Social bookmarking is that online habit of saving the URLs of websites to bookmark them by “tagging.” These days, instead of saving your bookmarks for your own reference, you can already sign up for an account in social bookmarking sites and store your finds there.

People now flock to social bookmarking sites to store, classify, manage, share, and search links. The bookmarks are tagged so they can easily be searched when they are needed. These tags are a means to organize things up, since the URLs will be labeled for easier reference to them in the future.

The URLs saved in a certain account in a social bookmarking site are public, but they can be set to be viewable to limited people in the network only, too. So, whenever you save a link and tag it, you are automatically letting other people in your network know about it and they can check if the site is interesting enough for them, then they tag it, too or rate it.

Now how is this any good to you if your maintaining an internet marketing business site or a website that promotes and sells products and services? If you have great contents posted in your blog or in any other venues online, you can bookmark these to let the others know about it. Just utilize the most appropriate category in the social bookmarking site when tagging. Posting in the right category is important so that you will be able to get a captured audience.

Bookmarking helps to drive traffic to your site, which is what every site owner aims for. Once you get to the first page of the search results or if your link gets rated high, then you get that huge opportunity of being “checked out” by the other people in the network who could view the link.

How important is social bookmarking to an ordinary browser? Aside from helping get organized, social bookmarking sites like Digg, Reddit, or Stumbleupon help people find the information they need much faster and more accurately, than if they do the same search on a search engine like Google, Yahoo, or MSN.

It is faster because there are categories that they can go to for filtered searching. That means only the most related links will be displayed in the search results page. What’s more, with the rankings, rates, or number of visitors indicated in each bookmarked link, people would be able to tell instantly if the contents of that specific link would be useful or interesting.

Compared to the hit-or-miss kind of search you get from the search engines, what you get from these social bookmarking sites are more relevant to what you need.

Video Editing Software For Impressive Results

January 30th, 2009

If you intend to display your video footage to anyone else, you will most certainly want to edit the material first. The simple act of arranging your shots and cutting parts that really aren’t that good or interesting can take the art of home made videos to another level entirely. One that will not bore but actually entertain the audience.

That is the reason video editing software shouldn’t be overlooked.

Editing and manipulating video is a demanding task that requires a powerful computer. A high end personal computer is usually good enough, but always bear in mind that without adequate performance, you will start to get grey hairs rather quickly.

Unlike let’s say word processing, video editing is a hard-drive intensive task and you will definitely want to have at least a couple of gigabytes of RAM memory to work with. Using up 60 GB of hard drive space for just one project is certainly not unheard of – particularly if you start playing with material shot in high definition. It really is a wonderful advancement of technology that you can do professional film cutting on a home computer these days, but it still holds true that the more memory your computer has and the faster your CPU is, the smoother (and more enjoyable) the job will be.

What modern video editing software is about more specifically is digital nonlinear editing. This simply means that, you use the computer’s hard drive rather than tape to store and edit your shots. The big benefit of this is obviously the ability to arrange your shot in any order you like very quickly. Anything that could be done on an old fashioned linear system can be done much better and with more flair with NLE.

There are many video editing software applications out there, both free and commercial ones, for both Windows PCs and Apple Macintosh. As for Linux, video editing is still one of the weaker aspects of the operating system, but the situation may of course improve at any time.

Digital video certainly is the medium of the 21st century, and nowadays it is available to almost everyone. With the range of options from quickly capturing something on a mobile phone to making your very own, well arranged mini-movie set complete with a high-definition camera, there certainly are many possibilities for creativity. And the end result can be published on anything from online video sharing sites like YouTube to state of the art (currently) Blu-ray discs.

Thus, hopefully fascinating digital short films can be created by more people than ever before, using a digital camera and high quality video editing software.

Certainly a very interesting developement for anyone interested in video production..

Top Ten Tips for Effective Interactive Meetings Using Audience Response Technology

January 29th, 2009

Organizations have long used lectures as the standard means of teaching, assuming that they are an effective way of imparting great amounts of information to large groups of participants. Recent research, however, questions the effectiveness of standard lecture formats on participant comprehension and knowledge retention. When the audience assumes a purely passive role, their concentration plummets after 20 to 30 minutes with most people unable to recall more than three facts from an hour long lecture.

Using audience response technology improves lectures by promoting more efficient acquisition and retention of knowledge through active learning.

The following tips will make your interactive audience response presentations run smoother:

Tip 1: Keep questions short to improve legibility

Keep your question and answer options short and simple in order that the audience can read them easily and respond quickly.

Tip 2: Have five (or less) answer options

If more than five options are provided to read. Also, when results are shown, they become cluttered and difficult to interpret.

Tip 3: Ask simple questions

Do not make your questions too complex. If you give your audience too much text and think they’ll be able to read it, digest it and make an immediate decision, either the response rate will drop due to the difficulty of the task, or the presentation will slow down a lot to allow time to meaningfully answer the questions. Neither of these situations is ideal – the purpose of using interactive audience response systems is to create a non-threatening atmosphere which encourages the participation of all audience members, and for the session to be active and fun.

Tip 4: Allocate time for discussion

Once the presentation is underway the audience quickly gets involved and much discussion is stimulated as their responses to the questions are displayed. When preparing your presentation, therefore, you must build in time for such discussion.

Tip 5: Don’t ask too many questions

Use questions sparsely to highlight the points you most want participants to retain. Vary your presentation with other slides. Presenting your audience with a series of one question after another becomes unbearable and their enthusiasm will diminish.

Tip 6: Check out your meeting location ahead of time in order to identify any potential technical problems

There are some technical issues to bear in mind with regard to venue. For example, certain types of lighting can interfere with the signals of infra-red (IR) handsets and receivers. Radio-frequency (RF) units may have trouble if the range between base stations and keypads is too far, or if separate interactive presentations are held simultaneously in close proximity. It is therefore advisable to test the system in the reserved venue in order that any such problems can be identified and fixed before the polling session begins.

Tip 7: Set up and test the system before the session begins

It takes some time to connect the various hardware and lay out the handsets – this obviously varying with the size of location and audience. Allow plenty of time to set up the system and make sure all the components are working before your audience arrives, and factor in some extra time to fix any issues that may unexpectedly come up during the setup process.

Tip 8: Rehearse your presentation to ensure that it will run smoothly

audience response systems are simple to use but require initial practice to familiarize yourself with them and to co-ordinate the timing for a smooth-running presentation. Rehearse your presentation several times, especially the first few times that you use the audience response technology, until you are confident with it.

Tip 9: Give clear directions to your audience

Inform your audience on what is expected of them. Unless they send their response at the correct time, their response will not be recorded. Clear directions should be provided before the session begins in order that the maximum number of valid responses to each question is collected.

Tip 10: Encourage active discussion

One of the best features of interactive polling sessions!presentations is the sincere discussion that results from the audience polling format. The anonymous nature of the responses creates an informal, non-threatening environment, which encourages free-flowing debate between the audience and presenter.

Adhering to the above practical advice will help you achieve the benefits of audience response systems, which can turn large group polling sessions into a truly interactive – and fun – experience for both you and your audience.

Free Important Techniques – Goal Setting and Internet Business

January 29th, 2009

Goal Setting for Internet marketing is Essential for Online Business Success

Can’t see the forest for the trees? Too often a problem when we become non-focused or moving in every direction but the one we ought to be.

You know all get-rich-quick-schemes that spread like viruses all over the Internet, and those emails about receiving a humongous amount of inheritance from some African countries.

Well, of course you wouldn’t fall for them or even give them time

But there are also countless other viable offers out there in cyber space that you will come across. Just don’t try to get into all of them! OK, take the FREE stuff – but file it and read and apply if and when it fits into your plan and objectives.

It is difficult to stay focused on your objective because there are a lot of distractions out there.

Setting some goals can keep you on track. Here are a few ideas.

Break your goals into manageable steps
If it is too big you won’t be able to absorb it or focus on it.

See if you can make your goal into short-term; medium-term and long-term goals.

Alternatively, see if you can break your main goal up into smaller goals which lead to the main one in time

For example: your goal is to make $10,000 a month from your internet business.

Chop that into a progressive goal.

Aim for $1000 a month for the first 3-6 months.

Then aim for $3000 monthly for the following 6 months.

Then perhaps $5000monthly for the following 12 months.

With $10,000 a month for the next 18 months.

The smaller ‘achievable’ goals will give you results that can build your confidence – aiming too big initially can lead to discouragement and perceived failure.

Getting a realistic and more easily achievable goal – gives you something back – a result – tell you it can happen!

Focus on Realistic Goals or Objective

Lots of people tend to lose focus when they are working on their businesses – online and offline businesses.

For example, let’s say that your goal is to achieve $1,000/month from Adsense on your site.

This means that the only activities that you ought to be doing are those that are geared towards how to make money from Adsense. Such activities may include driving traffic to your sites, adding good content consistently, being familiar with Google rules and tools.

However you and I both know this is not always the case. Sometimes Often, you might wander off browsing and participating in forum discussions about HYIP or Forex, which have nothing to do with your goal!

My advice is to only do those things that have a direct impact in helping you achieve your goal. As for the rest, you can forget about them, at least for the time being – file them away for later – for another goal that you will work on when this one is well and truly on track.

Set a specific dateline for you goal.

Simply knowing your goal is not enough, you need to set a specific dateline as to WHEN you want to achieve it.

Typically when we are asked when we are going to achieve our goals, our answers revolve around “as soon as possible”, “the sooner the better”, “next year”, or “2 years from now”, etc.

Do not use these words because they are too vague!

What does “as soon as possible” or “the sooner the better” mean? Tomorrow? Next week?

What does “next year” or “2 years from now” mean? January? December?

When you set a dateline, be specific. For example, setting a dateline like “5th September 2009″ works great because it is specific.

You see, our brain works a lot better if your goal and the dateline for your goal is specific

Remind yourself on a consistent basis what your goal is.

Often, we set our goals today only to forget about them in the next few days or weeks.

This is why you must remind yourself on a consistent basis what your goal is.

Write your goal clearly with a big font size on your whiteboard so that you can see it every day.
If you don’t have a whiteboard, you can write your goal on your computer wallpaper or cell phone wallpaper, or just anywhere you like. The point is to make sure you can easily see it every day, so that you always aware of what your goal is and not lose focus along the way.

Inspire and motivate yourself

One of the best ways to inspire and motivate yourself is to find out the people in your niche who have already succeeded, and watch, listen, and feel their success.

How much money do they earn every month? What have they done with these money that they have earned? What have they done for themselves or for their families? What kind of lifestyles do they now currently enjoy?

When you are feeling down or frustrated and everything seems to not go your way, stop your work for a moment and imagine yourself having achieved success like these people. Imagine the money that you would have had, and the lifestyle that this kind of money would bring.

By doing this, you will recharge your “down” state so that you become inspired and motivated to work towards your goal once again.

Eliminate all distractions while you are focusing on your work.

If you really want to focus on your work so that you can achieve your goal, then you should eliminate all distractions.

What I mean by this is that you turn off your Yahoo Messenger, Skype, MSN (unless you use them strictly for work purposes), Facebook, MySpace, your favorite non-work-related forum, Outlook, your cell phone, and of course your TV.

Why?

Because they are total distractions in getting your work done for the day.

I’m not saying that you can’t casually chat with your friends or check your personal email or Facebook account, it’s just that you should set aside a specific time for these non-productive activities, so that they will not distract you when you are working.

By doing this, you are bound to increase your productivity!

Getting Top SEO Rankings

January 28th, 2009

Search Engine Optimization or SEO refers to a strategy in doing internet marketing where the owner of a certain website uses the search engines to drive traffic to their sites. The search engines are the ones used by many people in finding information they need through the links of different sites.

Although there are hundreds of search engines online that people can use, the three major ones are Google, Yahoo, and MSN. What these search engines do is let loose their spiders, so these bots can crawl through all corners of the Internet to find all matches to the keywords that the user has typed in the search bar.

So, for those who own and maintain websites, spiders will find their contents when certain words match and the links will be displayed in the results pages of the search engines. When the links are displayed at the first page, then there is already a captured traffic. People would click on to the site options enumerated by the search engine, and they will check out what that sites have to offer.

What site owners should work on with their search engine optimization efforts, is to understand how these search engines are looking for the information and what their protocols are in putting what site in what spot in the search results pages.

Keywords are the key. These are the words that people would type when they need something. So, if you are a site owner and you have a certain product offering, you have to grab hold of the list of keywords related to your site and product. These are the ones that your target audience will most likely type when they’re searching online.

Now, how important is SEO to a site owner looking to earn an income doing internet marketing? Very. Why? Because it is so much better to be getting hundreds of visitors who are interested and are therefore already captured, than a handful of accidental browsers. Since there is a huge increase in the number of people that are already doing business and loads of other stuffs online, your goal should be to land on the topmost part of the first page of the search results. When you manage to do that, then you get all the possible targets instantly when they click.

Optimization involves the play-up of keywords and their strategic placements in the web pages. The primary spots where spider bots crawl to are the headings, subheadings, titles, and the domain name of the website. They next scan through the contents and linger on the first paragraph.

Knowing where to properly place your keywords in your website and in your contents or articles will help you come up with a good strategy to lure the bots and flag you. When you know the right keywords, you can start working on the contents, which could come in the form of blogs, forums, chats, articles, reviews, reports, tutorials, e-books, videos, etc.

But, putting keywords isn’t everything. You will have to really work on providing interesting, informative and useful contents – and this is not a one-time effort only. You will have to continuously come up with creative ideas if you want to keep on working on your SEO strategies.

Finally, while SEO and internet marketing is obviously what you need to concentrate on, it’s always important to keep yourself health. Learning about weight loss and doing regular exercise can only help you be more productive in your internet business.

The Copyblogger Files – Interview with Brian Clark

January 28th, 2009
Comments Off

brian clark
After being a fan of Copyblogger and other projects, Brian Clark was kind enough to do a panel on SEO I was moderating at BlogWorld. Then I ran into him again recently at Affiliate Summit thinking each time what a great thing it would be for our readers to do an interview with him for Online Marketing Blog

Brian is a fantastic writer and marketer, recovering attorney and someone that over 50,000 people have decided to subscribe to at copyblogger.com - one of the most popular blogs on the internet.  Brian has a lot of what people want: knowledge, talent and success.  Read on to tap into some of that Copyblogger goodness.

How did you go from being a lawyer to an internet entrepreneur?

Easy… I hated practicing law and I was fascinated by the Internet. The transition was extreme I suppose, but I always had a thing for writing, so I started creating online content over a decade ago. Now it’s just part of me.

How much does SEO play into your blog marketing efforts with copyblogger.com and the other sites you work with?

Well, it’s absolutely vital and yet absolute optimization never happens too soon for us. I’m a firm believer in building trusted authority sites, and sometimes that means foregoing the best keyword optimization in order to attract more links and subscribers. Once you have that trust (with people and Google) it’s easy to dive in and optimize certain pages or sections of a site.

What are the most common mistakes you see people make that get in the way of blogs or web sites from having better search visibility?

I think it goes back to my last answer… Obsessing over the perfect keywords in your title before you have any readers or any links is backwards these days. Google wants to rank trusted brands highly, and creating a brand goes way beyond keyword research and placement.

How important is genuinely good writing to having a successful blog?

It depends both on the audience and the author. In some areas being a great writer will put you ahead of the pack. In others, people are more interested in what you have to share with them, warts and all. But how you say things will always matter, whether you’re considered a “great writer” or not. That’s where copywriting skills come in.

Do you see links and buzz worthy content as a cart before the horse situation? ie, in order to get those links, you need to have something worth linking to.

The content and the value has to be there first. People think this is about “gaming” or whatever. Some people think having any strategy at all is “gaming,” and that’s fine for them. To me, it’s about solid value and solid strategy… both are necessary to achieve online marketing goals.

If you were limited to 2 or 3 things blog owners should always do to optimize and promote their blogs, what would they be? ie, what are 2 or 3 of your best blog optimization/marketing tips?

Well, it’s been said over and over, but I can’t say anything new. It’s about a unique voice, unique value, and working to make a connection with the audience. It’s not easy, but those who truly work at it will succeed.

What are some of your most effective tactics for writing blog post headlines?

It boils down to making a relevant and compelling promise… one that your target reader can’t refuse–and then fulfilling that promise with your content. If you’ll forgive a link, I’ve written a ton about headlines

What do you think are the most important success measurements for a corporate blog, a content blog, a personal blog? (RSS Subscribers, web traffic, repeat web traffic, advertising rev, consulting)

It really depends on your revenue model, but frankly, my answer remains the same regardless–subscribers. It can be email (and in most niches, it still should be) or RSS, but getting people to “raise their hand” and pay attention to you on a regular basis is golden.

What resources can you recommend for keeping current with blogging, monetization and internet marketing?

Well, for starters, you. Also, a lot of really great stuff is being shared on Twitter these days if you follow relevant folks. And I suppose we manage a decent tip or two over at Copyblogger. :-)

Here’s the best advice I can give on this… learn from everyone. Study marketers you hate as well as marketers you agree with. Don’t close your mind to anything and you’ll come out with a more well-rounded toolbox of tactics and strategies for online marketing.

 Thanks Brian!

How to Transfer Data from one Computer to another

January 27th, 2009

When it comes to transferring over files from your old computer to the new one you have many options out there. Not all of them are easy but this quick guide should give you some pointers.

One great source is this how how to transfer files site. They cover many of the basics on doing a data transfer and let you know a little more in-depth the actual methods you can use.

For those that just have a few hundred pictures or documents you may find your best option is to just copy them over via a USB thumb drive or burning the data to a CD.

For those that want to transfer over a use profile then you can use the built in Microsoft Easy Transfer software. Don’t let the name fool you. It often times can be a headache. That is why for people who need to transfer over user profiles and a ton of other settings your best option is to purchase software to do so. Check out this PC to PC file transfer site for some good pointers and reviews on software.

One option many people who are computer savvy can do is just export all their data and then re-install the software on the new machine and import the data back in. This works with IE favorites and other items like Quick Books and Outlook. Refer to the manufactures guide on how to do this or check out how to transfer files some great pointers.

One item we should point out is that not all XP software is compatible with Vista. You should always do a fresh install of the software on Vista and check for any needed updates. Most programs do work well on Vista but you may need an upgrade.

As far as external devices like printers and the like you also may need to go to the manufactures website to get the latest drivers and software updates before you can install the printer. If you have Vista you need to make sure you get the correct driver for the version you have. 32 bit or 64bit. You can tell this by right clicking on the “Computer” icon under the Windows Start Menu and then select “properties”. From there you can see what version you have.

Another item you should be made aware of is how to dispose of your old computer. You should consider donating it to a charity. If you go this route be sure to delete or pull your hard drive.

Learn To Make Real Cash With Your Internet Business.

January 27th, 2009

So you want to start an online business or start internet business the problem is you can continue to jump from ship to ship online to try and find the “perfect” opportunity to make money with. There is no real golden nugget in this industry. The only true way to make a real income online is to start building knowledge in you. You need to learn how to market your business like a professional.

When you develop the right tools and knowledge of a successful online marketer, you have the ability to market any product with nearly instant success. Stop trying to promote this product and that product and focus on what really matters. Marketing.

It does not matter what product you market (not that a quality product is not essential), it does not matter how incredible your system is. When you have the tools to start getting website visitors to your site, build relationships with people and influence people to buy, you can continue growing your business.

The most important aspect that you will ever need to master online, is taking action. No matter what you learn or who you are learning from, if you are not taking serious action on the marketing skill that you are acquiring you will never have a success online business. You will continue to gather new information and skills, but if you are not applying the knowledge that you know, you are not growing as an entrepreneur. Online marketing is a growth process that is wrapped in a financial vehicle. You know where you want to be, you have direction, but in the end you are still the one that is driving the car.

What you really need is to start gathering all the information you can about websites and driving traffic to these websites. when it comes to the success of your online buisness the more traffic you get to your site…. the better off you are. You also have the choice to purchase a program that will show you how to start or continue to grow your internet business the problem with this avenue is that most of the programs you find online are just scams. There are however some really good programs that will show you how to start your internet business and drive traffic to your websites, you just need to find the right ones.

Another way to start getting traffic to your website is through the search engines. It can take a while for you to get ranked high enough in the search engines to actually get traffic from the search engines…. but if you start building backlinks to your site and submit your website to the search engines every month you can get top search engine ranking and start getting huge traffic from the search engines. If you don’t have the time to build your own links or submit your website to the search engines every month, you could try a search engine submission service. There is one online called “Flight Search Engine Submission Service” you can find them through any search engine.

Get website traffic to your site.

You just input your keywords and description for the videos and have these programs submit the videos for you. Usually you need to have an account at each video site, so sign up at each one first.

Once your videos are up, check out the comments and see what other people think about your videos. It’s always good to get feedback to see where you can improve. Who knows your next video might be the next Evolution of Dance?

Another technique is going to the video sites and seeing what the popular videos are and creating something similar. This is harder, but if one video got tons of traffic, a copy cat video can also generate a massive amount of traffic.

Get going. Start creating videos today. Your business will be glad you did.

And start getting website traffic to your sites.
