FAQ’s on U-Verse Service By AT&T

December 17th, 2009

A third option is now available in many areas of the United States when it comes to cable TV. While in the past you either had to go with whatever local cable company was in the area, or one of the satellite companies, now you may be able to get U-verse TV services in your neighborhood.Let’s look at a few of the frequently asked questions about AT&T U-verse.

Does AT&T U-verse require a satellite dish to be installed?

No. AT&T is deploying fiber to the node, or FTTN technology to most of the major areas it serves. This fiber is deployed to a large serving terminal in each area, then the existing copper lines deliver the signal the rest of the way to your home. No satellite dish is needed, only the necessary receiving equipment is needed inside. So U-verse is actually more like cable than satellite TV.

What kind of discounts is AT&T giving with U-verse?

These of course are changed from time to time.Current offers generally match what cable TV companies offer for triple play packages of voice, video and high speed internet. Usually, you can get all of these services for about 0 a month for the first year or so. Sometimes the promotional price can go for as long as a year, but check with AT&T for the current offer.

How fast is the AT&T U-verse download speed?

There are different levels of service. The lowest level of service is the U-verse Express, which is 1.5 Mbps, and the highest is the Max18 service, which reaches up to 18 Mbps, great for downloading movies or even video conferencing.

What are some of the features of the U-verse home phone offer?

The AT&T Voice unlimited plans include all of the local and long distance calling. Other features include voice mail, call waiting and three way calling. So if AT&T is your local phone company, a quick internet search or phone call can alert you to the availability of U-verse. If it is not yet available, you can still bundle your video service with AT&T with one of their Direct TV deals.

Lets take a look at a few of the frequently asked questions about this popular package.

Is the Sunday Ticket package available on cable?

No. This package remains an exclusive of Direct TV. In fact, the contract to carry the NFL package has been renewed by the NFL and Direct TV, meaning you will only get full access on satellite TV through the year 2014. There is some hope that the Red Zone channel may be available to cable TV companies and Dish Network, but it won’t be happening in this season.

How much is the Sunday Ticket going to cost for the season?

At this time, early bird customers can get the NFL bundle for 9.95, or five payments of $55.99. The regular price is expected to be $300 for the full season.

Will the games be in high definition?

Only if you subscribe to the Superfan package in addition to Sunday Ticket. Superfan is 0, or five payments on your billing statement. It will provide HD access, as well as the Red Zone channel and SuperCast access which will allow you to stream the games to your desktop computer or cell phone.

Exactly what games are available?

The NFL Sunday Ticket package will show you all of the games that are not on regular network or cable TV. This means all of the early and late games each and every Sunday. The Monday Night Football game and the Sunday evening games will continue to be on ESPN and NBC respectively.

So is the Direct TV NFL Sunday Ticket bundle in your budget this year? With costs nearing 0 for full access, it certainly is a decision that you shouldn’t rush to make.

Dish Network vs Cable TV

November 13th, 2009

When looking for a good deal on home entertainment, you probably are looking at either satellite TV or cable television service.  While you usually only have one cable company to pick from, with satellite TV you have two choices, DirecTV and Dish Network.   Lets briefly compare Dish vs cable TV service.

Satellite TV service has now been an option for more than 20 years.  Incredibly, cable television has now been around about 40 years in most areas.  With cable TV, you usually have higher rates, as they have a last mile network to maintain.  Dish Network is probably the cheapest pay television option.Their prices are even lower than DirecTV.

With Dish Network, you have to have an area to place a 2 foot satellite dish.  If you live in a condo, this can be an issue.  Some have solved this issue by putting a satellite stand on their patio, as long as it has a southern facing exposure.  Cable television of course has hard lines running into almost every apartment building served in the area, so that may be your only choice if you live in a condo.

DVR boxes have become extremely popular over the past few years, and both cable TV companies and Dish Network offer this service.  Reviews of the Dish DVR though are much higher then the DVR’s used by cable operators.  In addition, Dish TV charges much less then your cable company for DVR service, sometimes by as much as $10 a month.

When it comes to HD, or high definition content you definitely need to check with your local cable company to see how many channels they offer.  The number can vary quite a bit based on where you live.  Dish Network does offer over 100 HD channels, but you do have an extra $10 a month charge, while most cable companies do not charge extra for their HD content.

In conclusion, pros and cons exist with both cable TV and Dish Network.  Fully evaluating your choice beforehand will insure you are happy and satisfied with your service later on.

Is Sunday Ticket Superfan For You?

November 8th, 2009

DirecTV is marking third quarter of 2008 with a great deal on their NFL Sunday Ticket plan. The regular season for the NFL doesn’t start until September, but training camp starts in late July for most NFL teams, and the pre-season games start in August. Maybe you have passed on the Sunday Ticket deal in the past. If so, now is the time to find the best deals out there, as this is the start of the busy time of year for DirecTV.

Now if you haven’t heard of this tremendous package, here are the details on DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket. Designed as the premium football viewing package, it is designed to give you viewing access to every single NFL game. In most cases, most viewers will see four or five games a week on network television, the Sunday morning and afternoon games, the Sunday Night game, and then Monday night football.

Now if you live in the area where “your” home team plays, you can usually see your team play on network TV. However, if you don’t live in that market, you would have to make a trip down to the local bar to watch your team’s game. Since DirecTV began the Sunday Ticket package a few years ago, you can always see your home team, from the comfort of your own house.

While out of area fans make up a strong base for the NFL Sunday Ticket, there are other fans that need this package as well. Fantasy football enthusiasts have been gobbling up the package, as it lets them check in on their fantasy players at any time. Another group buying up the package is those who may have a little money on NFL games. They love the Direct TV Sunday Ticket as it lets them keep up on who covers the spread.

What about price? In past years, the NFL Sunday ticket package cost has been around $250 per season, billed over 4 monthly installments. This year’s price for existing DirecTV subscribers will be almost $300 dollars. Those who sign up in time get a break on the price.

New DirecTV customers can get a great deal on the Sunday Ticket. Current offers bill the same price .99 per month for 4 months, with a great start up bonus. New customers signing up for NFL Ticket can get the Direct TV Premier bundle free for 4 months.  If you want the Superfan package though, you will have to pay an extra $100 for HD.  This is DirecTV’s top end package, with 265 stations, 35 sports stations, and also free movie channels.

Free DVR service is also included and an HD DVR upgrade rounds out this great offer on Direct TV Sunday Ticket.

Benefits of a DirecTV DVR

November 8th, 2009

The digital video recorder has to be the greatest add-on to my television. Ever since I got connected to the DirectTV Russian package and their new DVR, my TV viewing habits have been altered.

Let me give you an example.

If you haven’t ever watched TV with a DVR, or a TiVo, you don’t know what you are missing. You have complete control over everything you decide to watch. If you are watching a program, and all of the sudden you realize that you are hungry, you can just pause the program. Go make your food, and come back when you’re ready, even if it takes 30 minutes!

Then when you start watching the show again, you will have the added advantage of fast forwarding through any advertisements that come up. Zip through them each time they pop up! Sometimes I don’t see a commercial for days.

Now here is how to get the most out of a digital video recorder. I don’t surf through channels anymore. I simply set up my DVR to save the programs I like. Even with sports, I set the DVR to record, then I sit down about an hour after the game actually starts. That way, I can fast forward through all the advertisements, and watch the game in half the time.

Finally, I can always see new episodes of my favorite series. For example, new episodes are coming out soon of Friday Night Lights. On my DVR, all I need to do is select the record series choice, and every time the show airs, my Direct TV DVR finds it day or night, and saves it for me. I can set it to record all of the episodes, or just the first-run editions. All of this in beatiful HD too!

Then, when I have time to watch TV, all of my shows are waiting there for me to watch, minus the commercials of course. No need to rearrange my schedule around the networks, not with my new DirecTV DVR.

While other companies like U-Verse and Verizion Fios have also begun to offer DVR service, satellite TV companies like DIRECTV pioneered the product.

Basics on DIRECTV Bundles

July 30th, 2009

Ever since its creation, Americans have always been fascinated by the TV. It is a worldwide phenomenon and is currently the leading form of media ahead of print media and radio media. Although the internet has taken away some interest, the television is still the top source of all news and entertainment programs we all love and crave. From cartoons to reality shows to TV series, they all occupy our time and keep us entertained. There are a lot of different shows available however not all television providers give us all the shows we want or sometimes give more than we want. Good thing there are a number of television providers to choose from.

If having local television just doesn’t work for you then the next option is to subscribe to a cable company. There are a lot of different packages cable companies offer and they have different channels. It may be Time Warner cable, Cox, Comcast cable, Charter cable or Bright House cable, they have different things to offer and it depends solely upon your taste which one is the best.

Then there is a choice of satellite television providers between Dish network and Direct TV. Satellite TV offers the most choices of channels and programs and they usually have more of the channels then cable television has. However, this is the most expensive choice as you have to purchase a satellite receiver. This is the time of year when there are new Direct TV bundle offers out there designed to get you set up at a very low cost, or no charge at all.

Whatever your taste is, there are a lot of different choices you can choose from to satisfy your every day television needs. One of the smart things to do before selecting a pay TV provider is to compare services. A great low-cost option out there on the market is the DirecTV Choice. Doing a side by side comparison of Comcast or DirecTV will give you an idea of which company gives you the channels and services you want. That way you can determine if you want cable or satellite TV. Of course, keep an eye on things as at any time there could be a change in DIRECTV prices.

That way you can be sure everyone in the family is happy with their television choices.

Satellite TV Comparison with Cable

July 17th, 2009

Cable television offers aren’t hard to find, one seems to come in the mail every day if you aren’t a current subscriber.

The reason for that is because the cable TV company wants to build their customer base, thus they are willing to give you a great deal, generally for the first six months of your cable service. The cable company figures if you get service from them, you probably will set up a so-called triple play bundle that includes not only cable television, but also home phone and internet service.

Often you can get a triple play bundle for just $99 per month for the first year. Lets say normal pricing with a cable company is as follows: Basic TV costs $60 a month, high speed internet is $50 per month, and phone service is $30 a month. With prices like this, your overall bill would be $140 per month before all of the taxes that find their way onto your cable bill.  An alternative is to subscribe to a service like Charter internet and then add on Dish Network satellite.

But it is good to consider how this might turn out down the road Well consider what the bill will look like once the promo is over. You will have all of your television sets hooked up to the cable company, your high speed internet including your e-mail account through the cable company, and of course your phone service with the cable company as well. But suddenly the price goes up nearly 45%, from around $100 per month to $140+ per month. Now is it easy to switch?

Maybe, maybe not. The best thing to do ahead of time is compare companies before making your final decision. Lining up cable TV vs satellite ahead of time is the way to go.

While you might logically say it is easy to switch to some kind of deal from DirecTV or something else from your local phone company like FiOS from Verizon. But that is easier said than done. Often the time and inconvenience of switching providers makes the customer yield to whatever service they have. Even though the monthly bill is high, the customer stays because they have all the services on the same bill from the same provider. That is what the cable television company counts on when offering short term deals to acquire the subscriber.

DIRECTV vs Dish Network

May 31st, 2009

In the early 1990s, satellite television was first introduced to the market. It was understandable that only a number of people actually went out of their way to get their hands on a satellite dish. After all, the dish was a lot more expensive just as its size was considered inconvenient and intrusive.

At the time, satellite dish owners also used it to be able to access networks from different countries or channels that were not meant for mass viewing. The interesting thing though, people did not readilyget those signals. They had to look for those signals that is usually by chance alone.

This is no longer the case these days. If you want a particular channel, all you have to do is sign up with a direct broadcast satellite provider or DBS provider. A DBS provider, such as Directv and Dish Network, is the one who chooses the channels from the programming sources and brings it to your television sets. Simply sign up, an installer comes out and puts up a satellite dish for you and connects it to all of your television sets inside the home. In most cases, homeowners can have up to four different rooms set up to receive satellite TV signals. This is quite an advantage when lining up Dish Network vs DIRECTV satellite.

Satellite TV is not only limited to the number of channels you can have. There is also a satellite HD that feeds apt programs for your hi definition television set. HDTV has a bigger resolution that gives way to maximum viewing pleasure. These shows also come with surround sound that pretty much takes the cake for TV and home theatre enthusiasts alike. Best of all, there are so many Direct TV deals out there today. Spanish speaking subscribers can take advantage of the DIRECTV Mas packages.

The pleasures it brings take another turn with the arrival of the technology of a DVR. A DVR is a recording device meant for television shows. This technological marvel gives full control over live TV that fanatics no longer have to worry about missing their favorite shows. Truly a great way catch up on what you might miss on Direct TV.

Five Reasons to Get Rid of Cable

May 9th, 2009

100% Hi Definition Service.

If you’re a cable subscriber, your service provider most likely carries around 20 to 50 channels in HD. But if you have access to satellite television, chances are you’re enjoying up to 100 channels that have nice crisp pictures and flawless reception.

Currently, not even the largest cable companies such as Comcast, Time Warner, Bright House, Cox Cable and Charter Cable can compare to DirecTV’s 130+ channels you can watch on HD. By the end of the year, DirecTV projects satellite TV subscribers will be watching up to150 channels in HD. Put that HDTV to good use and maximize your viewing experience through DIRECTV!

View More, Pay Less.

The pro-con list could go on and satellite would still emerge superior to its cable counterpart. However, it all boils down to this: You get to watch more for a price that won’t burn holes in your pocket. With satellite, you get more features, more movies, more music, more cartoons, more sports, more HD! You’ll receive more of almost everything each month. Great sports programming like the NBA League package are also available for an extra fee. What more could a customer ask for?

Free Installation.

Most cable TV companies charge you up to $100 for sending out a technician to hook up your TV sets. Satellite TV providers Dish Network and DirecTV offer free installation and setup in order to make things easy. You no longer have to worry about reading the fine print or fees that cable companies (over)charge one time or monthly.

Multi Media Entertainment.

Radio on Your Television?! The limits of media are once again broken, but in a good way for the customer. Subscription to Dish Network gives you access to Sirius Satellite Radio to listen to the best music all day long once you’re tired of watching television.

Family Friendly Packages.

With your current cable subscription you get basic packages with channels picked for you. However, satellite TV services from Dish Network and DirecTV program packages that will cater to all members of the family. Everyone should be able to enjoy viewing without worrying what they young ones are seeing. These satellite packages ensure that kids see age-appropriate as well as educational shows.

Switch now to a great Direct TV deal if you don’t want to regret missing out on anything.

Comcast vs Dish Network

May 7th, 2009

Ever since the invention of the TV set, it has been the top media channel in society today. In the United States alone, there are millions of people who rely on their TV for both information from news and entertainment from daily scheduled programming. Today, a popular method of television broadcasting is done via cable television.

Cable television or CATV was commonly used in mountainous regions where broadcast signals are weak, so they used coaxial cables to broadcast television programming. Today, it is a common television service and in America and there are a lot of cable providers to choose from. Unfortunately though in most areas, you will just have one cable TV company serving your area, so if you want something different, you will have to go with satellite TV. This is not always a bad thing, its a good idea to line up the companies side by side, comparing Dish Network versus Comcast.

The top cable company in the United States is Comcast, it is by far the largest cable company in the country. It also offers high speed internet service and is currently in second place and fourth place in providing telephone service. Unfortunately, they have a reputation for having the worst customer service among any company or government agency in the United States. Next is the Cox cable company which is owned by Cox enterprises. They have nearly 6 million subscribers to their cable service, internet and home phone service. They are currently the third biggest cable company in the country. The third largest in terms of revenue is Charter cable company. In terms of revenue, they are behind only from Time Warner and Comcast. Then we have Bright House cable which is the sixth largest cable company. Most of these companies now also offer local and long distance phone service.

Many are satisfied with the Comcast basic cable packages, however if these do not catch your fancy you can also turn to satellite TV companies like Dish Network who also provides high definition or HD service for those who want it. The only problem being it is sometimes difficult to get Dish Network in your condo
