Stress Control – Ten Good Ways to Reduce Stress Resulting From Your Online Business

November 13th, 2009

Lots of us elect to work at home to avoid the many difficulties associated with the typical 9-5 job – issues like an irrational supervisor, too much to do and/or impossible cut off dates.

But, we may rapidly discover that home working generates its own issues.  So, how do we deal with these new issues?

1.  Create A Efficient Workspace

Make sure you have a private workspace, along with all the necessary gear such as phone, computer, printer, fax, and so on. You will need a comfortable chair and a solid desk.  You can make your office area more welcoming by seeing to it that you have lots of space, plenty of light – and, if you are a feng shui fan, have someone come in and feng shui your workspace!

2.  Delete Pointless Action Items

Go through your “To-Do” List and delete anything that actually doesn’t belong on the list, or anything that doesn’t genuinely need to be completed.  Be strict in your decisions – remove as much busywork activity as possible.  Editing your list will not only save you the effort you would spend trying to do those tasks – it will also save you the strain and physical problems associated with worrying about those pointless tasks.

3.  Acquire Necessary Tools

The right tools make any task much less complicated.  Spend the cash to get the basic tools and equipment you need to do your job.  And, if your financial position allows, spend some additional money to get the tools that ( while not absolutely required ) will streamline your livelihood and make your life usually a lot less intense.

Buy a reliable, computerized marketing management system and let technology take care of lead management and order fulfillment tasks for your business.

4. Engage a Administrative Assistant ( s )

Identify tasks that are unremarkable, recurring and not one of your key processes.  Think about outsourcing them to a domestic or international assistant (which is much more reasonable than you may think).  Possibilities for outsourcing include article marketing, website design, SEO, backlinking, lead follow-ups, etc.

5.  Build a Support Community

Working from home can become a particularly lonely activity.  Establish a strong support network – this should be a group of associates with whom you network thru the internet (e.g, forums, discuss rooms ) or a local group in your community or church.  The most important thing is to stay in regular contact with folk who are crucial to you – and who can share what you are going thru as an entrepreneur.

One superb place to start for gaining all the understanding about internet marketing that you’ll need to be successful is to enroll in the Online Success for Beginners program.

6.  Manage Your Expectations

Don’t expect miracles or overnight success.  Build a connection with a mentor or friend who can help you set realistic objectives and expectations – and help you stay goal oriented when things don’t go quite the way you need them to go. An online, or work at home business, is just that – a business.  As such it requires a continuing supply of clients and products and vendors, etc.  Every one of those presents another chance for a problem to occur, increasing your daily levels of stress – just like the characteristic nine to five position.

7. Break It Into Pieces

Your grand and glorious plans may seem inspiring, but taken in total, they can be extremely overpowering and scary ( e.g., “I wish to be a millionaire” or “I wish to retire in five years”).  The neatest thing to do with such grand goals is to “chunk them,” i.e, break them down into far smaller, more controllable segment and then create a plan to gain each of those smaller goals.

8.  Eat Well

Eat a healthy, healthy diet loaded in fruit and veg.  Reduce or eliminate caffeine ( coffee, black and green tea, cola drinks, and chocolate ).

9.  Exercise

Exercise relieves stress, increases oxygen to the brain, and gives a recess from intense work-related activities.

10.  Rest & Relax

Try to book time as a normal part of your day to slow down and do anything that you enjoy, even if it is just for a couple of minutes.

One of the best advantages of a home{-based work-at-home} business is that you are now your own boss – but that’s also one of the biggest causes of stress in your life.  You are now the one person who has to choose what jobs need to be done, when and by whom.
